Printable wake window chart: newborn to 12 months

Keep a little reference beside the day you actually have. These awake ranges are starting points, not deadlines. Feeding, changing and settling count as awake time. Your baby's cues come before the clock.

How to use this chart

Count from the moment your baby wakes. A feed or diaper change uses some of that time. Watch for fading attention or a quieter gaze, then begin settling. After a short nap, the next awake stretch may be shorter too.

The overlapping weekly and monthly guides offer context, not separate rules. For a baby born early, ask your care team how to use adjusted age. Try the free nap calculator when you want an example from your own morning wake.

Keep sleep safe

Every nap and night starts with the same safe setup: on their back, on a firm, flat surface, in their own crib or bassinet. Keep it empty: no pillows, blankets, bumpers or toys. No weighted sleep sacks or inclined sleepers. Share a room, not a bed. Source: AAP safe-sleep guidance (2022).

For fever, pauses in breathing, blue or gray lips, difficulty waking, or unusual sleepiness with poor feeding, call your pediatrician, or emergency services if it feels urgent. Do not wait for a different nap window.

A guide, not medical advice. Napbird never gives medicine or supplement advice, melatonin included.
